New Game Preview!

I’m so happy to say that the new GameHammer game being coded live on YouTube, Roland Rescue Redux, is progressing nicely. It’s a remake of Roland Goes Rescuing 2 and the hope is to be able to address all the criticisms levelled at that game by reviewers. Mainly the criticisms were the lack of screens (making the game too easy to complete) and the lack of music. These will both be addressed, plus a few issues of my own that I noticed after completing the game.

It is well down amongst the Gribblies that Roland must, indeed, die.

I’m using Multi-Platform Arcade Game Designer by Jonathan Cauldwell to create the game. It’s a very interesting utility that allows you to make very cool games very quickly; although I will admit to having a few teething troubles with it at first. Nevertheless, this is a very powerful program that will allow the game to be compiled on Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum, BBC Micro/Acorn Electron and MSX. The plan is to have all four versions released by Christmas.

For now a very (and I do mean VERY) early alpha test snapshot is available for the ZX Spectrum version. It only runs on 128k Spectrums right now and doesn’t do much but it’s fun to take a look at.

This is the new version of the starting screen, with extra Gribblies to avoid.

Hope you like it!
