So I’m working on getting the ideas together for my NaNoWriMo novel and, as usually happens, I am getting flooded with ideas I cannot use for this book. Naturally I’m writing these ideas down in a notebook because I might want to use them at a later date but the point is, ideas cause other ideas to flow. It’s a thing.
My biggest idea of late is that a series of novellas and/or short novels might go down well with the eBook format. I’m sure you’re all aware just how popular eBooks are right now and I have been thinking that they are an excellent medium for series of books – more so than traditional print media; although the Doctor Who new adventures novels certainly went down well in print. Anyway, the idea I’ve been having is to write novellas and short novels more in the style of episodes of a television show rather than how so many fantasy authors write their epic tales. I think the Sherlock Holmes stories, or even the Anita Blake series, are a examples of what I’m talking about: self-contained, easy to read and just damn good fun.
I don’t know if I will do any eBook series because I have so much else to get through right now but perhaps I will, if I think I can do the idea justice. Right now I’m thinking The Blobland Band would make a fun series, as would the cyberpunk ideas I have had flowing around my head for a while now. Maybe link a horror aspect in there as well, if it will fit. It could end up rather interesting either way.
Do any of you guys read or write a series on eBook? If so, let me know about it in the comments. I’m really interested to read more examples of this style.
